Among thirty Chronic Periodontitis patients, whose age are between 30-55 years old, coming to the Periodontia Dental Clinic, University of Indonesia in December 2002-March 2003, most of them had minimally 3 teeth with pocket depth of  6mm, lost 4mm attachment, and they hadn’t taken any antibiotic since the last three months. Scalling and root planing entirely was done to every patient. At random, there were three kinds of treatment : the application of 25% metronidazole gel mixture, the application of PVP-1 solution, and control. Application was done twice on the 0 and the 7th days. Examination of clinical effects, such as gingival bleeding, pocket depth and clinical attachment gain, were done on the 0 and 35th days. Statistical test was used to measure gingival bleeding with Kruskal-Wallis test.7 Pocket depth and clinical attachment gain were measured with Annova test and Tuckey Honestly Significant Difference.8 |
